Glow with the Flow: The Illuminating Journey to Becoming Neon Soul Yoga

In 2010, life was a vibrant mix of creativity and self-expression. I was living in Orlando, Florida, and my evenings were often spent performing spoken word poetry, a passion that allowed me to channel my thoughts and emotions into something tangible and powerful. It was the year after I'd completed my MFA in film production. Around the same time, I began dabbling in modeling, initially for a friend who was a photographer. What started as a casual collaboration soon evolved into a deeper, more artistic partnership. The photographer, who went by the name Neo Samo—a nod to the legendary Basquiat—introduced me to the idea of an artist moniker.

One day, as we reviewed a series of photos that captured my essence, he looked at me thoughtfully and said, “You need an artist name.” Curious, I asked him what he had in mind. Without hesitation, he responded, “Neon Soul.” When I asked him how he came up with it, he explained that my spirit was so bright, it was like neon—vibrant, bold, and impossible to ignore. From that moment on, Neon Soul became my artist identity. It was the name I used when performing poetry, and soon, it became my handle across all social media platforms. It was a name that resonated deeply with me, embodying the energy and creativity that I sought to share with the world.

Fast forward to 2023—a pivotal year in my journey. I had just completed my yoga teacher certification, a transformative process that deepened my understanding of mindfulness, balance, and the interconnectedness of all beings. As I considered how to bring my new role as a yoga instructor into harmony with my artistic identity, it only made sense to carry the name Neon Soul forward. The principles of yoga—light, energy, and the recognition of the divine within ourselves and others—aligned perfectly with the name that had already become such an integral part of who I am.

In my yoga teacher training, we were taught that the meaning of "Namaste" is, “The divine light within me honors and acknowledges the divine light within you.” This definition struck a chord with me. It was a perfect reflection of the Neon Soul identity—an acknowledgment of the bright, radiant spirit that exists within us all.

And so, Neon Soul Yoga was born—a continuation of the journey that began with poetry and evolved into a holistic practice of honoring the light within ourselves and others. To further reflect my background in television production and my commitment to supporting artisans within the industry, I launched my website, neonsoulyoga.tv. This platform not only serves as a hub for my yoga practice but also as a space to help others in the creative community find balance and connection through the principles of yoga.

Neon Soul Yoga is a name that reminds me daily to live with purpose, passion, and a deep connection to the divine energy that flows through us all. Through this platform, I strive to share that light with others, helping them to discover their own radiant, neon souls.
